About the Episode

On the latest episode of YOU Better! I sat down with someone whose journey of reflection and self-discovery has inspired me to push beyond the expected.

Twenty years ago, A. Jade Smith planted the seed in me that "happiness takes courage" and from that point on, courage has kept growing as the defining value in my life. In her own journey, Jade has done the courageous work of going inward, facing herself, and changing her view of where she finds the value and meaning in her life.

After a 15-year career with a Fortune 500 company, she left on a journey of self-discovery. What she uncovered along the way widened her emotional sphere. She quickly learned that the path to joyful living required taking responsibility for the narrative that defined her life. Confronting her emotional, financial and professional mindset unveiled a vacuum of truth and revealed an insatiable curiosity. Her guiding principle -throughout this process- is to live authentically and remind people of that joy is optional.

In this episode, A. Jade reflects on how her journey found her looking for purpose and value of her life through things such as finances, jobs, and relationships outside of herself.  She then shares about life-saving advice from friends, a period of deep self-inquiry, pausing to face herself, and a commitment to inspire others to answer the call to courage.
